INSTRUCTION FOR THE PUBLICATION OF THW PROCEEDINGS OF THE CONFERENCE

Estimated friends,

In order to carry on with the publication of the proceedings of the International Conference “Representations of women in the works of male creators of the Mediterranean” we would like to inform you of the followings:

1. The proceedings will be published by the basic body organization of the Conference, the Union of Students and Graduates of the Academical Program “Hellenic Civilization” of The Greek Open University “EKATAIOS”.

2. The related announcements ought to be deposited in the following e-mail address : ekataios@gmail.com until 1/5/2011

3. The announcements must not exceed the limit of 7.000 words (including the notes and the bibliography) in Greek or English language.

4. The name of the author, the status, the name of the Institution in which belongs, the title of the announcement and the possible subtitles should be written in capital letters and should not be followed by any punctuation. More specifically, the tile of the paper must be centered, written in Times New Roman, size 14, bold (a blank line). Essential is the electronic address of the authors (two blank lines).

5. The text should be written in Microsoft Word, in Times New Roman, size 12 for the text of the paper and size 10 for the footnotes, spacing : 1 (single) and page dimensions : left-right 3cm and up-down 4cm. The footnotes (explanatory, additional, etc.) must be sub paged with continual numbering.

6. Bibliographic references should be added in an abridged form in the text as follows : (Mosse, 1993) when referred to an author, (Carby, 1993:25-32) when referred to certain pages, (Ηοοκ, Lakof and Mead, 1993) for more than one authors, (Richter, 1971, Zeitlin, 1978) for more than one works and (Riffaterre 1990α) or (Riffaterre 1990β) for references in more than one books of the same author that were published the same year.

Note: It will not be allowed modification of the text, except the bibliographic supplements taking into account the material published after the submission of the manuscripts. Short additions may be submitted only after previous communication.

Announcement

In Thursday 03.06.2010 at 10:00 there will be a bus at the airport in order to trasport the participants to Acharavi.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR COMMUNICATIONS
The Union of Students and Graduates of the Academical Program “Hellenic Civilization” of the Greek Open University “EKATAIOS” in cooperation with the Thinalion Municipality of Corfu organizes International Scientific Conference with the subject:
“Representations of women in the works of male creators of the Mediterranean”
Under the civil cultural studies there is a conversation in progress on how male artists and creators represented women in their works from their own perspective and the social defenses of their gender. These representations did not always reflect the real conditions which formed the everyday life of women themselves, but were based on how the certain creators believed that women “should” be. Often in their works a strong misogyny was obvious, however, contemporary research from a gender perspective uses this artistic production, in order to reconstruct the multiple obscured feminine past and also add it –while broadening and democratizing it- to the official history and the history of women.
The aim of this conference is, for the first time, a structured development of a fruitful dialogue between the official until now knowledge and the relevant feminist view around women and how did the male creators of the Mediterranean illustrated them in their works, and besides the contribution of the findings of this dialogue in the effort, which is in progress, in order to discern the lives of women and make their voice heard in art reviews, especially for such an important matter about their gender as this one is. Moreover, the goal of this Conference is to encourage young scientists, both male and female, of various scientific disciplines to take part in this scientific dialogue and to present such projects.
The Conference Proceedings, as we hope to cover a wide range of interdisciplinary communications, will comprise a coherent and an integrated kernel of subsequent references and will contribute in the further promotion of the civil reflection, especially to the Study of Genders widely.

In this we invite you to submit your suggestions for communication to the Scientific Committee of the Conference. Your suggestion might be dealing with issues within any form of artistic Mediterranean creativity (such as literature, archeology, arts, including cinema).

You may submit a 250-300 word summary (attached) electronically in the following address, marked as “EKATAIOS, 2010”, by the 10th of January 2010: info@ekataios.gr
The Scientific Committee of the Conference will inform you of the acceptance of your summary by the 28th of February 2010. The rapporteurs are called to enroll on time until the 30th of March 2010.

The accommodation and food for participant rapporteurs will be covered by the Organizing Committee.
